Tools and Materials Needed

  • Paper towels
  • Hot water
  • baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Wet/dry vacuum
  • Vanilla
  • Lemon
  • Rag
  • Mixing bowls

Step 1 – Removing Smell from Your Body

If you were working with gasoline and have the odor left on you then it can be taken off pretty easily. There are a few options to get rid of the smell. You will want to take note of the products in case of any allergies. You can first mix a little bit of vanilla with water and then use a rag to rub or wash where it was on your body. Or, you can mix water with vinegar or lemon and do the same. You will want to keep in mind that if you have any open cuts, vanilla is probably the best mixture to use so you don’t have any irritation. Once you have rubbed and washed it off with a rag you will want to take a shower. This will allow you to get the smell of lemon, vinegar or vanilla off of you.

Step 2 – Removing Smell from Your Car

If you had a gasoline spill in your car, which happens frequently when you are carrying a can of gas, it is a little bit harder but still doable. Febreze is a good first choice, however if this doesn’t work or you would rather use household items then you can make a mixture of baking soda, white vinegar and hot water. Mix everything in a bowl and then use a rag to gently wipe off the seats or rugs in the car that smell.

Step 3 – Removing Smell from Your Carpet

Finally, if you have a smell of gasoline in your carpet you will want to be very careful about what you are using to clean it up. The best thing to do is to take two mixing bowls, rags, hot water, baking soda, the vacuum and vinegar. First, use the rag to soak up any area that may have gotten spilled on and left an odor. In one bowl mix a little hot water with vinegar and in the other bowl you can mix hot water with baking soda in a paste-like consistency. Now, apply the vinegar and water solution to the area of the carpet that has the odor on it. Use the vacuum or a rag to soak and clean up the area. Then put the baking soda and water mixture on the spot. Use the vacuum or a rag again to wipe off and clean the spot. Then use hot water to clean the area and allow it to dry freely.

Each of these solutions is as effective as the others, however you will have to decide which will be best for you depending on the area of the odor as well as your preference in cleaning supplies and products.
