The grand daughter of the original owner of this vehicle contacted me to see if we could bring the 56 year old DeSoto back to its original glory. It arrived completely original in virtually every aspect. The original Hemi V8 motor still ran great and the interior was in very nice condition considering its age. The only damage to the vehicle found was along the passenger side where it appears to have been side swiped from the front fender to the center of the rear quarter. The chrome was in terrible shape from a combination of rain and the salt air of the beach. The entire body was covered in a layer of rust under the original nitrocellulose lacquer paint. We stripped the chrome, removed the trim, soda blasted the paint and effected a small amount of metal repair. The chrome was shipped off and some of it was redone as much as five times to repair all of the damage from extensive pitting. The vehicle was delivered in time for the family (grand daughter and her mom and dad) to enjoy a long standing tradition of a ride at Thanksgiving.

1968 Pontiac GTO-121

Bob began admiring this 1968 Pontiac GTO, but his wife denied his request. As any car guy would; Bob continued to go back and look until one day just before his next birthday he went for a visit but the car was gone. Very disappointed and perhaps even a little upset with his wife; he resigned himself to the fact that the GTO dream was gone. To his surprise on his birthday this 1968 Pontiac GTO was what his wife presented him with. Bob drove it for a short period of time before taking it to a car restoration shop where it remained there for four years with little success. Through a friend, Bob heard about DRS FantomWorks. Bob made the call and now after only 7 months here at DRS FantomWorks his car is nearly complete just waiting on a few custom touches, it should be ready in no time.

1968 GTO

  Although the vehicle looked fairly good when it arrived, it had been garaged for about 18 years in a partially disassembled state. As we looked closely, we found significant corrosion around the front shock towers, frame rails, transmission cross member, floor pans, floor to trunk transition, and trunk pan.

1975 Covette Stingray

This Corvette came to us after being severely damaged in a front end collision. The alignment was off as well as the lean or list of the vehicle. We found the frame to be 2.5″ from plumb and began with that effort. We completely rebuild the firewall from a donor vehicle and then replaced virtually all components forward of the firewall. When the owners father (the previous owner) came by to look at the vehicle it brought a smile to his face to see his old car back to a look and he stated with a big grin on his face “it never looked like this!”

This is one of only a few Standard Motor Company cars in existence in the US. The company, headquartered in England, existed prior to WWII. When the German bombing of England decimated the Triumph motor company in England (and yet the Standard company survived largely in tact) the Standard Motor company purchased the name “Triumph” and re-flagged under that name. Their primary reason was that the US market (easily the largest in the world then) didn’t exactly favor a company whose name of “Standard” seemed far too regular or ordinary.
