On January 1, 1966, viewers of the Rose Bowl were first introduced to the new “Leader of the Dodge Rebellion”, the 1966 Charger. The Charger’s debut also followed by a half model year the introduction of a new street version of the 426 cu in (7.0 L) Chrysler Hemi engine. With the Charger, Dodge had a new model to build a performance image to go along with this engine.

The 1964 ChevyVan had a cab forward design with the engine was placed in a “doghouse” between and behind the front seats. Engines and brakes were sourced from the Chevy II, a more conventional compact car than Chevrolet Corvair. The forward engine design allowed a flat rear floor with low deck heights in the rear of the van for loading/unloading cargo. This model was also sold by GMC as Handi-Van.

The New Yorker entered 1961 with a new grille, slanted headlights, a continental kit on the trunk lid, and a 413 CID Golden Lion V-8. This is the last of the “Forward Look” models. Chrysler built 2,541 New Yorker two-door hardtops this year, the last until 1964 in Canada and 1965 in the U.S.

The 1963 Continental remained much of the same from the previous year except for the rear panel design and new grille. The Lincoln Continental was the only 4-door convertible offered on the American market. Available again in 1963 was the suicide doors that opened to the center and hinged to the body instead of the center pillar. Plus a light on the instrument panel blinks a warning if the rear doors are not fully closed when the ignition is on. The entire body of the 4-door sedan is welded into a single unit and protected by four coats of baked enamel. Standard features on the Continental included a 430 cid V8 engine, automatic transmission, power windows, power brakes, and power steering.

The Cyclone, a performance model of the Comet, used a styling similar to that of the Lincoln. For 1965, the Comet received updated styling front and rear (including stacked headlights). The base 8 cylinder engine was increased from 260 to 289 cid, and using a 2 barrel carburetor, it produced 200 hp at 4400 RPM. The standard transmission continued as a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The optional automatic was changed to a Merc-O-Matic” 3-speed automatic transmission (essentially a Ford C4 transmission). The 289 V8 was available in three horsepower ratings, base 2-barrel 200 hp, 4-barrel 225 hp and the premier driveline option was the 289 cubic inch, 271 hp high-performance engine and four-speed manual transmission found on the Ford Mustang.

The 1967 Shelby GT500 is the worlds most famous mustang. This is largely due to the movie, “Gone in 60 Seconds.” It is also one of the most expensive classic mustangs in existence. This year was one of the last years that the Shelby Company was involved with the production of these vehicles, at least for a little while. They were equipped with a huge seven litre motor that produced over 300 horsepower.  The aggressive look of this car is without a doubt what makes this car so desirable. If anyone was to drive this car around town they would have people drooling. Therefore, the FantomWorks team is proud to be working on a true original american muscle car.

The 1962 Thunderbird was the third generation produced by Ford. It featured a new 390 cubic inch motor that produced up to 300 horsepower and was joined by a automatic three speed transmission. When this car was first produced it was so popular that it sold about 73,051 vehicles; making the third generation Thunderbird one of the most popular production years. However, in 1962 there was a special package that was introduced, The Sports Roadster Package. This package created a much higher price for the cars equipped with it that only 200 such vehicles were ever sold. This particular model of the car is extremely rare due to the low sale numbers.
